National managing editor Vince Versace gets things rolling with an update on the ConstructionJunkie blog’s competition for best construction podcast across North America. As of this episode The Construction Record is in a very close second place, and voting closes on July 3, so please cast your vote for us!

Vince also looks into the continued controversy around Bill 66 in Ontario, which gives municipalities in the province the option to end their status as construction employers and introduces open bidding, and highlights the Women in Construction feature running on both the Journal of Commerce and the Daily Commercial News.

Journal of Commerce digital media editor Warren Frey and staff writer Russell Hixson talk about the Trans Mountain project, which was recently re-approved by the federal government but still faces challenges, along with a tunneling milestone for the Site C project in northern B.C.

Warren also looks into a recent story by Don Procter about British Columbia lighthouses going solar or using wind power, and one of his own stories about the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s new initiative to industrialize and digitize construction.

Vince also shares an economic update, and we have a feature interview with NAIT director of research innovation Ryan Leskiw from his recent talk at the British Columbia Construction Roundtable.
