This week on the TCR Express Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson joins digital media editor Warren Frey for a look at what he’s been working on and has on the go in a busy week after much of Canada celebrated the Family Day long weekend.

Among the stories Russell’s working on is a look at agreement between unions and the open shop portion of the Manitoba construction industry on the strategic direction the provincial government is taking regarding labour and skills education training.

Russell’s also been working on a story about the study of asphalt and how it can be mixed for optimal sustainability, along with another story on retrofitting older buildings to address new climate needs.

We also have a clip from our upcoming Friday podcast featuring Stephanie Allen, the founding member of the Hogan’s Alley Society in Vancouver who details how the historic neighborhood was pushed aside in favor of land development without consultation of the Black community living there. Stephanie’s comments are part of a recent Urban Land Institute webinar which Daily Commercial News staff writer Don Wall attended, and we’ll be speaking with Don this Friday about the event as well as playing more clips from several speakers as part of our Black History Month coverage.
