On this episode of the Construction Record Podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey talks to S3 Surface Solutions president and CEO Jack Aspenson about how different coatings and adhesives can increase sustainability.

Aspenson discussed how to mitigate pollution by reducing criteria pollutants and ensuring coatings used are biodegradable and resistant to moisture to avoid “sick building syndrome.” He also spoke to an upcoming product made of sulfur which assists in reducing CO2 when concrete is created.

Aspenson said as a company S3 Surfaces doesn’t make a product unless it can be proven not to be harmful to the environment. He added his business concentrates on commercial flooring and industrial applications, hospitality and health care. Apsenson said the company’s epoxy solutions are particularly effective at repelling microbes in a health care environment.
