This week on The Construction Record podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Gavin Daly, the architect and engineering manager for Axis Communications. Daly specializes in smart building technologies particularly security and operational efficiency.
Daly says there are “areas of interest” in every building where sensors and cameras can increase efficiency as well as restrict access to authorized personnel.
Access through the exterior of a building may seem simple, but Daly pointed out cameras can scan license plates for authentication and smart network controllers can also control door access. With the COVID-19 pandemic those systems are also able to lessen occupancy in buildings and minimize contact. Inside buildings systems such as network intercoms, smart audio systems and emergency messaging are all key parts of a building’s infrastructure.
