This week on the Construction Record podcast, Journal of Commerce digital media editor Warren Frey and staff writer Russell Hixson look at some of the stories they’ve been working on recently, including Calgary’s 2019 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards. Russell discovered new community areas such as West Eau Claire Park are being built not just for public use but for flood mitigation and takes a look at a few of the other projects nominated for their exceptional design work. He also spoke to Vancouver real estate developer Beedie about their and somewhat bold new marketing campaign to appeal to Alberta businesses searching for warehouse space.
Warren attended Procore Construction Software’s Connectseries session in Burnaby, B.C. and spoke to Procore director of business development for the marketplace Kris Lengieza about the growing role of robotics in construction along with ever-expanding data collection from the site and the challenges of managing that data to encourage further growth.
Warren also went to the Wood Solutions Conference and spoke to Hawkins\Brown Architects senior partner Harbinder Birdi about the ways the United Kingdom has moved ahead with wood construction and the factors such as Brexit and the Grenfell Tower tragedy that are for the moment stalling further wood developments.
