In this episode of the Five Pods of Xmas, Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson looks at some of the biggest western Canadian construction stories of 2021 and makes a few predictions about what the future holds in 2022.

Russell looked at the results of the legal clash between the family and supporters of Sam Fitzpatrick and Kiewit as both a significant story in its own right and a sign of things to come as the construction industry focuses on the importance of occupational health and safety, particularly given a horrific crane accident in the summer in Kelowna, B.C.

Russell pointed to the pandemic as a driver of innovation in the industry as new ways to connect and work became necessary to go along with COVID-19 protocols and social distancing and  predicted this move to digital will accelerate in 2022.

You can listen to the previous Pods of Xmas from Daily Commercial News staff writers Angela Gismondi and Don Wall as well as our regular Friday podcast on Apple PodcastsSpotify and Amazon Music’s podcast section as well as at the Daily Commercial News and the Journal of Commerce.
